Comment on article 3 : Nature Study!!!!!!!! It's real wonderful workshop.

On last weekend 24th August 2008, I was join one of the program call ‘Water4life’ organized by GEC or Global Environmental Centre. GEC initiated most of the environmental issue within this country and they are one of NGO work on environment issues since year 1998.The project aims to:

  • Improve the water quality from Class IV-V to III-IV and enhance the aesthetic value of the river
  • Increase awareness & inculcate the ownership among communities to help reduce pollution
  • Develop a community participation model elsewhere in Malaysia for large scale implementation

My attending in this programmed is unplanned since I have to be represented my company and I found this is a good programmed to our community. They expected about 60 participants from selected Rukun Tetanggas (RTs) and Residence Associations (RAs) under the Sg. Pencahala and Sg. Way will take part in the training. Unfortunately less than 10 participants are attending this workshop. Here are some reasons in my personal view why the participant is less:

  • Lack of awareness among the community even though this workshop is free
  • Lack of promotion. Short period of promotion and wrong medium of promotion
  • Wrongly day choose for this programme, should be in school holiday not on weekends

I really impressed when they bring us to the Bukit Kiara's recreational park in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), in the middle of the crowded area, there was a source of Sg. Penchala where we can found crystal clear potable water.

During this program, they also appointed community as a ‘river ranger’ and they have given “water quality testing kit”.

You can find enclosed the picture of the in situ test has been done during our workshop. I can say that this is valuable experience and GEC did organized one of the excellent workshop. For those who want join as volunteer members of this NGO, please find out at http://www.gecnet.info/www.gec .

Trust me, you will having fun and precious experience.

Will pond scum become the new oil?

Hello guys…

My second article is quite interesting since it was discussing our world problem regarding fuel crisis which was facing every single of us.

Comments on articles 2: Will pond scum become the new oil?

When I found these articles, it was come unbelievable to me. As usual the more we questioning, the more we get closer to those unbelievable things.

Let me starting comment by put some of my working experienced. Working as a treatment engineer at national sewage company, I have to dealing with sewage treatment plant from oldest type up to the hi-tech plants. One of the non- mechanized plant we have an oxidation pond (OP). Here the problems get started with the pond scum covered on the surface of the pond. Now you know why I am curious: Will pond scum become the new oil?

For the first place, this article brings us to the respondent comment on the performance of algae fuel. Definitely, there haven’t any different by running this fuel compare with other biofuels. In fact, these biofuels runs smoother than diesel.

The best part is algae easy to be found. We can see the algae growth everywhere and doesn’t much care needed to make it well grow. Even, to us algae is unwanted plant which is grows quickly and will be doubles in short times. In other word, algae are free.

Unlike our biodiesel from palm oil which quite expensive and nowadays the production of palm oil somewhat demanding and it was contribute to the increasing of palm oil prices.

I think, this is the time for us to looking at algae fuel. Instead of cheaper than other sources, algae needs only sunlight, carbon dioxide, nutrients and water to grow. Government should playing their role to encourage our researcher to do more study and investigation on new sources of energy. In the preceding years, Malaysia just being followers to the other country who’s discovers new finding.

We having so many professional intelligent researchers who are able bring up Malaysia as a ‘country leader’. We might be discovered much more new energy sources not only algae. It’s just as algae, other waste from industry, agriculture, forestry, and households can also be used to produce bio-energy. For examples include manure, straw, lumber, garbage and food leftovers. Methane from anaerobic sewage also can be derive as new energy.

Currently, we haven’t heard or noticed any of new findings or research result from methane gas anaerobic in Malaysia. Hopefully there are still on going to complete the research otherwise they will be wasted government money. Algae, methane gas anaerobic sewage both are free source.

Government should increase the numbers of grants every year in order to encourage research to discover new energy sources. We are close to the day when our Prime minister will be announced the budget 2009 on this upcoming September. I hope that the grant for the R&D will be double through budget 2009 to ensure not only algae but also other new sources of energy. Now is the time to try and find some solutions to combat or fight to the current petrol price.

Green light for carbon credit sale

Hello everyone’s…
Really proud to those who are first timer blogger like me. ;)
Its true Dr, it was not so complex to create a blog….

And for alls, enjoy my comment on articles 1 and don't forget to leave down your comments.

Comment on article 1 : Green light for carbon credit sale

Developing country has begun carbon trading as their funds source in their way to reduce carbon emissions. It was present how they act in response to dealing with global warming.

Before we go further down to comment on this article, let me describe concisely what carbon credit is about? For those who still vague in impression on this topic, I’m not blaming you guys because it’s still new to us especially in Asia Region.

The carbon credit scheme was ratify in agreement with the Kyoto Protocol. Its aim is to stop the increase of carbon dioxide emissions. As an example, if there has countries plants enough trees to reduce carbon emissions, those countries will be awarded a carbon credit. Apparently, the carbon credit scheme looks to reduce emissions by having countries respect their emission quotas and offer incentives for being their ‘umbrella’. For more understanding of carbon credit, you can find out at You Tube video as attach in my blog.

Back to these articles, this is good lesson should be reviewed by our government and respective party to practice this kind of carbon credits. Carbon credit seems like a win-win situation where the greenhouse gas emissions may be reduced while some countries harvest economic benefit.

As we in Malaysia reserve a lot of forest and there can be the place to reduce the carbon emission. In addition, our government can earn more funds by having this credit to boost up their financial. I believed by the deviation of profits from other business, our government can be more responsible in term of social affairs to the Malaysian. In other words, this is the time for government to struggle towards rising world fuel price; they can offer Malaysian much more acceptable subsidiaries and combat to the climate change simultaneously. We deserve a better Malaysia!

In opposition, critics of the idea expect that some countries will exploit the carbon credit scheme and the consequences will be negative. I’m not really agreed!!
